Biography

William “Bill” Novick of Montreal was a decorated World War II pilot who volunteered to fly for the newborn State of Israel during its 1948 War of Independence, serving with the Israel Air Force’s Air Transport Command. Like many North American Machal and Aliyah Bet veterans, he put his hard-won wartime flying experience to work ferrying the aircraft, arms and supplies that the embargoed young state urgently needed.

He died on March 23, 2023. He was remembered among the honourable menschen marked for Yom Ha-Zikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day. May his memory be a blessing.
